HealthEngine Recalls – a system that is better for practices and their patients

Recalls and reminders are an important part of general practice in Australia (see the RACGP 4th Edition Standards for guidelines). But, for many practices the process is extremely laborious and time consuming. 

Spurred by the increase in the price of postage from $0.70 to $1.00 and slower postal delivery times, practices are actively looking for an alternative recall and reminder system. So, we set out to create one that would reduce practice costs and streamline this herculean task.

Practices need a cost-effective way to contact patients quickly and reliably for recalls and reminders. SMS is a great alternative to letters (which is why they are frequently used by Australian banks). Our inbuilt SMS functionality allows you to see and track the progress of a recall and scans the appointment book for a patient’s past and future appointments, giving you a complete view of a recall’s progress. We’ve made sure that this is all recorded against the patient file for complete record keeping and transparency.


Calls are an integral part of the recalls process so we’ve created a simple, intuitive way to manage and record your calls. This information is also stored in the patient’s file, to ensure you have a complete record for all of your recall and reminder activity.


There are plenty of cases when letters are the best option. For example, what do you do if a patient doesn’t have a mobile number, or if they don’t answer their phone? Letters still have a place which is why we made it possible to create letters as easily as sending a text. So that you have all of the contact methods you need, right at your fingertips.


Practice’s need to have a complete audit trail of recall and reminder activity. HealthEngine Recalls keeps track of your recall and reminder activity for you, making sure that every action is automatically recorded against the patient’s file in your Practice Management System along with user and date information. This ensures that your practice is fully compliant with the RACGP Standards.
